Sony Ericsson Aino reviewed

Thanks to Tony who got in touch with us about whether we knew the Sony Ericsson Aino would be arriving the UK for this Christmas. Unfortunately having just checked, we don’t think there is any sign of this happening with any of the UK’s networks. However it does appear to be available as a sim free phone for a one-off purchase price in excess of £380 quid at a certain online shopping site which begins with “a”. Is this pricing worth it though? We think many have the misconception of considering the Aino as a potential “PlayStation phone”. The Sony Ericsson Aino as we mentioned in a previous post, it boasts a keypad with an intuitive touch UI for use with media. Its onboard intuitive media browser gives users a clear overview and one touch direct access to their content. With an 8.1-megapixel camera, automatic syncing with a home computer via MediaGo and Remote Play from a Playstation 3, the Aino should be the all-in-one multimedia hub.

Wi-Fi Scale Posts Your Weight Details On Twitter

Withings has just unveiled their latest product — a Wi-Fi-enabled scale. Aside from calculating your body weight, body mass index, and lean and fat mass, it’ll also Tweet the results for you.
Now why would you want to Tweet your weight details to the rest of the world? Well, research has proved that the more closely you keep track of your weight loss (or gain), the more likely you are to stick to the program and actually achieve your fitness goals. Sort of a Biggest Loser kind of psychology.
Of course, you can choose to have the Wi-Fi scale on its own without the Tweeting capability — it’s actually only an option you can enable to help you stay on track. When you have a permanent database of your progress that could stretch into years, it can be a powerful tool to motivate yourself — and your followers, if they’re on the same fitness boat as you.
But you might want to avoid the Tweeting aspect if you’re on your fitness regimen on your own — otherwise the number of your followers will drop with your pounds

Vizit digital photo frame

Isabella Products, Inc. and AT&T have teamed up to announce a brand new two-way, fully interactive digital photo frame in the industry which will be simply known as Vizit, where it will be running on the AT&T wireless network for all its connectivity needs. What is Vizit able to do? Well, for starters, it allows people to not only send but receive digital photos over the air while combining it with an easy-to-use interface, real time photo sharing, a full-touch interactive display and remote photo management from VizitMe.com. This special amalgamation of touch-screen technology, proprietary software and cellular connectivity offers a rich, yet effortless, photo sharing experience. We can expect Vizit to hit the market sometime early next year, which isn’t exactly swell news since that would mean missing out on the holiday shopping season this Christmas.
Relying fully on AT&T’s nationwide wireless network when it comes to sending and receiving photos, users are able to do so directly from the Vizit itself to friends and family via email or over to another Vizit, allowing you to build a private community of friends and family who are open to sharing their lives with a close circle at all times. This brings the photo sharing concept to a totally new level, where those who have access to Vizit are able to know what’s happening at that very moment – without having to wait for you to sort through and process a whole bunch of photos stashed away on your memory card. Sort of like a visual Twitter, so to speak.
Features of the Vizit include a 10.4″ high resolution touchscreen display complete with easy-to-use icons and an intuitive carousel menu that allows you to navigate through photos in a jiffy. You can create your own photo slideshows if you want to, rotate or enlarge them to fill up the entire screen. Each time new photos arrive, you can send replies back to the sender or forward said photos to other family and friends. You will require a monthly or annual photo plan to go along with the inital $279.99 price point, of course.

The Vertical Bed lets you literally sleep standing up

Imagine walking the streets of New York City and seeing this guy. If you were a true New Yorker, you would probably just walk on by, assuming you even noticed him in the first place.
As an “out-of-towner”, I probably would just assume that this man had some disability that required im to wear metal braces on his neck and…backside, and would probably not ask him about it.
Actually, this man is asleep. That’s right, he is on the Vertical Bed, and all those braces are designed to attach to an ordinary subway grating. This very tired chap tried it out in NYC, and he actually got forty good minutes of shut-eye.
Personally, I think this is the sign of the times. I mean, I have taken naps on libraries, coffee houses, and other public places that are not ideal for napping, but I would have to be very tired in order to consider this vertical napping accessory.
Honestly, I just don’t think that humans were meant to sleep standing up like horses. Not only that, but what is prevent pickpockets from robbing these easy targets?
This Vertical bed is just a concept for now, but it comes with noise-canceling headphones, sunglasses, and a free-standing umbrella. It is all made to fit compactly into the suitcase that you see attached to the standing napper.

CanCam lets your soda do the watching

We at Coolest Gadgets are no stranger to seemingly ordinary items that conceal spy cameras. The most recent was the fake car key from Brando. This one is very unusual, as it is a can of Coke, something that I would never suspect would try to film me.
This CanCam has 4GB worth of memory to record VGA quality video that can support 15 hours of continuous recording. As you can see, the lens is located slightly below the logo.
The on and off switch is located underneath the can itself, as well as the record button. There is a USB port there to help charge the camera, and is presumably there to download the video footage as well. It even has a remote control for even more secrecy.
You could leave this on your desk all day and feel comfortable knowing that all the actions of your co-workers will be under surveillance. Unless someone comes and looks too close, no one will ever know.
Of course, I’m sure people will probably wonder why someone has the same Coke can on their desk 24/7. I can’t help but wonder if the weight of the CanCam feels the same as a full can of soda, because that could easily ruin the effect.
If you want to see it for yourself, the CanCam can be purchased at the China Grabber website for a price of about $61.99.

Little Buddy GPS device keeps track of your kids

There’s a nifty little device being sold at Best Buy which keeps track of your kids everywhere they go. It’s called the Little Buddy GPS Tracker and it uses global satellite positioning and cellphone technnology to help parents keep track of kids. And the best part is, parents can place the Little Buddy just about anywhere from backpacks to lunch boxes to even stick it into their pockets when they aren’t looking.About the size of a USB thumb drive, the Little Buddy transmits GPS location data where parents can monitor a child’s whereabouts. And for $100, it’s a very affordable way to keep track of busy kids who can lose track of time and don’t show up when parents expect them to. It even has an SMS Text message option which will alert parents when children leave the designated area
And the device is so popular, that Best Buy can’t keep it in stores. It’s on back order already.

KITCHEN COMPUTER

This next device has a name that some of you might have a hard time pronouncing, but just say the word “cook” and you got it. I’m not certain what the heck QOOQ stands for, though.
The QOOQ is a kitchen computer and it comes with 10 recipes from chefs on video. It also can connect to the internet over the Ethernet or Wifi, and the user can even subscribe to monthly updates for lots more recipes. There is also a meal planner and a shopping list maker that will also help before the cooking. It doesn’t have an Internet Browser, but it can be used to update recipes, get weather information, internet radio stations, and can also be used as a digital picture frame.
Now the QOOQ has a 10.2 inch touchscreen and an onscreen keyboard, but you are probably wondering if you want something like that in the kitchen with sauces that boil over and all that kitchen mess that you have to wipe off daily. Fortunately, the QOOQ has a glass screen that you can wipe off with the counter and all.
Now, the QOOQ comes with 500 preloaded, interactive recipes, but it is all written in French. It costs €349 and then €12.95 /month for the updates

PhotoTrackr

Don’t you just love progress in technology that has enabled us to live a much more relaxed life, having devices and gadgets to ease the way we do things? Imagine that in the past, dad who took photos of all the family vacations had to then send those negatives to the nearby photo shop to have them developed. Following that, he had to make another trip to collect those photos, and then painstakingly tried to remember just where and when he took those photos of you and the rest of the family, following that up with some useful labels so that the memory will remain etched forever without having to worry about arguing over whether you were 8 or 9 years old when you shook hands with Mickey Mouse at Disneyland. Nice to know that modern technology has enabled this thing known as geotagging, where users are able to geotag their photos via GPS co-ordinates. The PhotoTrackr Mini DPL900 takes the original idea of its 2007-released PhotoTrackr by coming with even more features, where we’ll take a look at it in the extended post.

The PhotoTrackr Mini DPL900 is not only smaller but faster than the original, where it will go about geotagging your photos with aplomb in order to preserve your travel experience as you share all those lovely shots with family and friends over various online web albums such as Flickr or Picasa, giving a detailed account of any and all trips you have embarked on so far, alongside the ability to work with Mac software and RAW photos support. This has been a long time in coming, and was always one of the major gripes with Mac users in the past who wanted to buy the PhotoTrackr Mini DPL900 but never did so due to such a restriction. Looking like a USB flash drive, it certainly won’t evoke a sense of fear or trepidation and bulkiness when you tote it around.

Stess Watch Indicates Your Stress Levels

This watch not only looks fantastic, but serves a great purpose which really should have been invented before now. But alas, it is now available.

The stress watch is aimed at busy people, with hectic lives, as it monitors stress levels throughout the day, and indicates your levels via a black bar graph on the screen. The blues and greens indicate a mellow mood, compared to pinks, reds, and oranges which indicate a stressed out individual.

Thankfully, the watch also tells the time (as you may expect), so you will never miss an appointment or meeting, though these meetings may cause your stress levels to soar. Once the stress levels hit a peak, you can take a rest and watch as your levels (hopefully) begin to drop.

The device is currently only a prototype, but one which many, many people would like to see come into production.

Nook e-book reader

Barnes & Noble is a name commonly associated with books, and it is interesting to note that the company has moved into Amazon Kindle territory with other notable competitors such as Sony’s touchscreen e-reader and Irex’s releases as well, offering their latest e-book reader known as ‘Nook’. Don’t laugh at its name though – Nook is one fine looking e-book reader that will definitely have you reading more voraciously than ever before simply because you won’t mind pulling it out from your backpack for the umpteenth time throughout the day instead of showing everyone your dog-eared paperback (while giving the game away that you’re sloppy enough to mistreat your books).

What makes Nook different from all the other notable e-book readers that we’ve seen and heard about so far? For starters, Nook will come with a pair of displays instead of the usual solitary screen. The top screen is nothing much to shout about with just 16-colors being shown, but the bottom display is where all the action is at – it will boast a full color 3.5″ touchscreen LCD display, where it can be used to browse through one’s library or even be used as a virtual keyboard for input purposes when necessary.

Apart from the second display, the Nook will also support 3G connectivity via vast AT&T’s network, ensuring that you ought to remain connected to the Internet most of the time with a decent speed in order to download content that you like. Wi-Fi connectivity has also been included, further upping the ante and providing yet another compelling reason to choose the Nook over the Amazon Kindle since the latter still does not support a wireless connection on-the-go. Content-wise, Nook will feature native PDF support while handling EPUB and other e-reader formats with aplomb, offering you access to over a million digital tomes in the process. To round off the list of features, the Nook will come with 2GB of internal memory, a microSDHC memory card slot that lets you gain another 16GB of storage space, MP3 audio playback, and most importantly, a community feature that the rest of its competitors don’t have – which is its ability to share your books with friends using compatible devices for up to a fortnight. The catch? Your friend will need to have a device which already has the Barns & Noble software running on it. Expect the Barnes & Noble Nook to go on sale sometime this November for $259.

WikiReader keeps Wikipedia handy without internet connection

It’s astounding how many arguments get solved by hopping on the internet and going straight to Wikipedia. It informs you on all the random bits of knowledge you never knew you needed. Of course you can’t always just hop on the website to check on that information. Especially if you don’t have a smart phone of any kind. Well for those that want to have access to that knowledge without being connected to the internet, now you can have Wikipedia with you at all times.
Just carry around the WikiReader and it’ll let you learn all the useless knowledge you’ll never need. You don’t have to ever be connected to the internet to look up the information either. Which means you can even learn when you’re far away from the rest of civilization. To keep it updated you’ll have to pay a $29 subscription fee to Wikipedia. Then to purchase the little handheld device itself it’ll cost you $99. It only has three actual buttons and then a touchscreen to handle the rest of the typing. It requires two AAA batteries to keep up and running. The device has become officially available as of today.

Digital MP3 Glasses

Digital Cowboy has recently released a model of sunglasses that can also play MP3 and WMA files. Specifications: These MP3 glasses feature bit rates supported range from 64kbps to 320kbps. It provides 1GB of internal memory. These specs should keep a smile on your face for long! And as I was told they come with polarized lenses, which is great when considering some real protection for your eyes. You can be sure they will keep your eyes from ultra-violet radiation.

The manufacturer has taken care of your ears too. The earphones are built into the glasses, and NO, you won't be able to take them off. So it's an option for those who don't want to see and listen to the surrounding world.

Materials: I'd like to say that they are made of French glass and rimmed with super rare metal alloy, but sorry guys it's not the case! It is about simple polarized lenses and impact resistant plastic. Which is again great, because otherwise you wouldn't be able to afford it. By the way you can get them for about , or maybe even less as the summer passes by.

Design: The design seams to be a thought-out one. This is firstly, because they lean tightly to your face, which is especially comfortable when jogging, cycling, hiking, etc. Secondly, they are not designed to be used only in summer. What about skiing and the mountains' sunny days?

Besides, the manufacturers and designers (as I suppose) intended to create a gadget that links the ideas of comfort and sport. The glasses are created to make your day sufficing your need for musing and fitting your sport style.

HOYA ROBOT

One of the problems with firefighting is that firefighters often run into burning buildings, without any idea if anyone is in trouble. I’m sure there are times in which firefighters have ran into empty burning buildings, only to have the structures collapse on top of them. It is always terrible when someone dies for nothing, but the Hoya Robot from South Korea could help cut down on needless deaths.
The Hoya is a rolling robot that resembles the Sony Rolly, and travels at one foot per second. It has a range of 54 yards, and can transmit images of what is inside. It also has onboard lights to illuminate its path, and it can check a burning building for temperature, smoke, and gas.
The Hoya can withstand temperatures of up to 320 degrees Fahrenheit, is water resistant, and can withstand drops of six feet. It can operate up to 30 minutes without charging.
The Hoya robot took two years to develop with help from the Ministry of Knowledge Economy, and 50 fire stations in Korea are planned to receive 100 units for testing

Student Designs Washing Machine That Can Wash, Dry and Iron...

The University of Plymouth graduate hopes the machine will become an object of desire because it saves about 10 days a year in ironing time.
The 23-year-old student's innovative idea was thought up for his final degree project. According to Oliver,
"It's simple, but it works and the real beauty is the ironing time it saves. There are thousands of exceptional students out there and I knew I had to come up with a damn good product idea to pass my finals. A washing machine seemed quite obvious and almost everyone uses one."
The machine washes, dries and irons clothes in separate compartments and is said to eliminate colour runs, shrinkage and ironing. It can tackle up to 16 items at a time, including king-size bed sheets.
Because hangers are used, they do not become entangled and have 83% fewer creases, according to the designer. The items are then dried and ironed by hot air blown across them.
The designer claims another major benefit of the separate compartments is that muddy sports gear can be washed at the same time, but at a different temperature to delicate fabrics.
Mr Blackwell said he expected the WashDryIron to retail at about £800 to £900.
"There's been a huge amount of interest shown in my design, but what I really need next is for a major manufacturer to get involved with some investment to develop it further.
"It's simple, but it works and the real beauty is the ironing time it saves. I can't see many people arguing with that."

New Fuji camera to take instant color photos

Fujifilm has announced the release of its most recent instant photo camera, which is called Instax Mini 7S. Although the design can be unattractive for many people, it is possible that other users think exactly the opposite.
In sharp contrast with the Polaroid PoGo digital camera which has a built-in printer, the Instax Mini 7S uses the Fujifilm Instant Color Film “instax mini” with a size of 2″ x 3″. This film has an image area of 1.8″ x 2.4″, which is then developed as the finished photo.
Other features of the Instax Mini 7S include a built-in automatic flash system and an electronic shutter 1/60-sec. A LED exposure indicator shows how many pictures are left and the glossy film has a light sensitivity of ISO 800.
This new instant photo camera has a price of 96 dollars and a 10-pack of the Instax Mini film costs $20.

Solio: Solar charger for your cell phone battery and other gadgets

Solio is a charger that, actually, can be charged with solar energy or electric power, and it allows users to re-charge their devices and gadgets including iPods, mobile phones, or other gadgets with a smaller size.

According to Better Energy Systems Ltd. (producers of Solio), the internal battery can be charged totally by exposing the Solio to the sun during 8 hours. Then, this charger will allow us to generate two complete recharge cycles for most of the phones on the market.
That is to say, just in case you don’t understand yet: a Solio charger with a 100 percent charge (yeah, it sounds a little redundant) can recharge the battery of your mobile phone up to 2 times.
Another example with a 100 percent charge: It can allow us to enjoy our MP3 player during 15 uninterrupted hours. Yeah, 15 uninterrupted hours of music! That is a great thing because we won’t have to depend on the domestic electricity in our house. Even, you can travel with the charger and visit amazing places without electricity and, anyway, you will be able to use your gadgets. You only will need solar light.

Anti-Snoring Device Snore Stopper Watch

No one likes being the one no one wants to sleep around, thanks to their obnoxiously loud snoring. Well for those that haven’t found a way to get their snoring to stop, here’s another miracle gadget to try. It claims to at least lessen your snoring, but does it in an odd way. It uses acupuncture to achieve this goal. Of course there’s no way to confirm whether or not this actually works without trying it, but at least the gadget isn’t too expensive.
The watch doesn’t actually tell the time, so it’s a little silly to call it a watch. However, it does have a sensitive micro-sound detector that will detect when you’re snoring. Once it does that it will send a very mild electronic signal. Apparently it’s even capable of distinguishing between snoring and just other noises in general. This device will make slow down the frequency of your snoring as well as make it so you don’t snore quite so loudly. You can purchase the gadget for $36 from Amazon.

LED Tail communicator

This is indeed funny. Are you often perplexed about what your dog wants? Some brilliant dog lovers have come up with a gadget to solve this problem.
The LED Tail communicator, as the creators call it, tells you what your dog is trying to say. The Tail Communicator measures a dog’s WPM, or wags per minute, and translates that enthusiasm into a message a string of words that hover in the air like one of those LED-arm clocks.
This tail communicator is designed by James Auger and Jimmy Loizeau as part of the designers’ Augmented Animals project. And presently it is in concept phase and is being displayed at Modern Museum of Art in NYC for the Elastic Mind exhibition.

AMD Eyefinity with multi-display technology

After the successful launch of their Opteron EE processors at the beginning of this month, AMD is back with a brain storming demonstration. According to Cnet, AMD has now displayed a new graphics chipset called the Eyefinity. This chipset is destined to be a part of the ATI Radeon family.
The Eyefinity incorporates multi-display technology. This technology has been designed to support up to six high definition displays. It also claims to achieve up to twelve times 1080p high-definition resolution images. The chipset is said to create virtual environments that are so detailed that they seem optically real.
The chipset provides a resolution of around 268pixels. This resolution is approximately equivalent to the resolution of a 90 degree arc of the human vision. The Eyefinity can be used with two kinds of setups. The first is an immersive setup in which a single user uses many displays while in the second several users can use the centralized computer for different tasks.
The Eyefinity is said to be the chipset of the future. It will provide users with various advanced features. There is no official word on the release date of the AMD Eyefinity

Philips DECT Digital Baby Monitor

Having suffered through two kids worth of basic, no-frills baby monitors, I now greatly appreciate the features that Philips have built into their new DECT digital baby monitors. DECT stands for Digital Enhanced Cordless Telecommunication, and it's basically the same technology built into high-quality digital cordless phones. Unlike the older-style baby monitors, this one has zero interference from nearby monitors or other devices in or around the home. It's also a totally private connection -- the neighbors can no longer listen in.
Recently featured in Time Magazine, the Philips DECT Baby Monitor features a two-way intercom so you can communicate with your child directly from the handset, an integrated thermometer reads ambient room temperature and displays it on the handset and base, 5 different lullabies are controllable from the handset, a nighlight is controllable from the handset, and rechargeable batteries with up to 12 hours operation between charges.
Also included are a belt clip, neck cord, zippered travel bag, and a lifetime guarantee.

The Giant Cuddly Bear

The Giant Cuddly Bear
We all loved teddy bears at some point in our lives, most of us still do and that’s why I am excited to tell you I have found the ultimate teddy bear named Stitch.
The Gund Basil Jumbo Teddy Bear is priced at $500, which I agree is a lot of money for a teddy bear. But, this bear is the ultimate giant teddy bear available today. At a whopping 6 1/2 feet tall and weighing 40 pounds, this giant bear is so cute and huggable.
Its belly is filled with 35lbs of soft polyester fill and its fur is a washable non-toxic polyester fur.

Driverless taxis of the future arrive

We've seen driverless vehicles on sci-fi films but now you can see one for yourself at the Science Museum in London'. It is being exhibited alongside other landmark inventions like Penicillin and Stephenson's Rocket - the first commercially successful steam locomotive.
The ULTra isn't just pie-in-the-sky thinking either; it is science fact, the driverless transport system currently being tested at London's Heathrow airport. The network of driverless taxis can take passengers non-stop to their destinations by simply pressing a button, while the pod cars run on their own road system.
While currently limited to use at airports, the ULTra project could have major benefits for city transport because, in contrast to conventional forms of transport, they offer a combination of good accessibility and short trip times. With a maximum speed of around 25mph and electric motors the ULTra is a quick and quiet way to travel.
Passengers at London Heathrow's Terminal 5 will soon be able to experience them in operation between car parks and the airport terminal. All without the accompanying banter as to where you're going, complaints about the traffic, weather and the cost of everything you'd get if you travelled by a conventional taxi.

Sunshine Jars – Jars That Contain Sunlight

The latest in amazing gadgets are Sun and Moon Jars that contain a solar cell of remarkable efficiency, a rechargeable battery and LED lamps that run on minimum energy. To charge the battery, you won’t need any cords or plugs! Place the jar in direct sunlight and the solar cell will work to produce emf or electrical current to charge the battery. At night, you can then turn on the three LED lamps using the stored energy, which is a beautiful sight to behold.

To complement this exciting gadget, the Sun or Moon Jar is frosted, which disperses the light and essentially makes the light look like it’s radiated by the sun or the stunning glow of the moon. . Another surprise of this gadget is that the jars don’t have any apparent switches. Whenever it gets dark, the Sun or Moon Jar brightens up by itself because of the automatic light sensor inside.
. However, to work properly this gadget must be exposed to direct sunlight. To charge it correctly, you will need to place the Sun Jar outdoors during a sunny day or in a window which is exposed to sufficient sunlight. The Sun and Moon jars run from the power of a standard AA rechargeable battery that can be found in most stores and can be replaced if required.

Samsung P400 Portable Projector

Samsung, one of the world’s largest electronic companies, has recently released the ultra-small and ultra-lightweight P400 projector that features mobile technology and multimedia functions.

One of the most amazing features of the P400 is its LED light projector that can last for more than 20, 000 hours. And because the device uses a LED light source, the projector uses to least amount of energy while preventing over-heating.

Meanwhile, one of the most notable feature of this projector is its brightness that can reach up to 115 lumens or about 77 percent of its 150-lumen maximum output. It also has a very good contrast ration considering its small size.

Setting up the P400 is not a problem since it’s a plug and play device. Users will only have to setup the projector in a presentation screen or even a blank wall. The maximum image projection is about two meters wide, which is more or less 98 inches (13 feet away).

Other adjustments in the video quality and audio clarity may be done by “credit card-sized” remote control or the touch-sensitive control panels, which is built-in on top of the P400. However, the touch-screen control is a little let-down for the device since it is really difficult to come up with the desired specification.

HP Compaq 515 and 610, latest additions to Compaq family

HP has made a few new additions to the Compaq family in the form of the Compaq 515 and the Compaq 610, reports Ubergizmo. These laptops are sort of boring office type devices but the LED backlight adds a hint of interest to them.

The HP Compaq 515 is a 14.1-inch laptop that is powered by an AMD Athlon X2 processor. Alternatively, the laptop is also compatible with the Turion X2 processor. The graphics are provided by the ATI Radeon HD 3200 integrated graphics card.
